Day 2. HAVANA – PINAR DEL RIO
(Breakfast, lunch and dinner)
After breakfast, guided city tour on foot of the historical
centre of Havana including a visit to the Palacio de la Artesania.
Founded on its present site in 1519, the settlement of San
Cristóbal de La Habana prospered mainly due to its
bay, which was a natural port of call for ships sailing to
and from the New World. This was one of the main historical
reasons for the subsequent development of a city noted for
its architectural diversity and whose nucleus still contains
an exceptional collection of buildings put up around public
squares, and has led UNESCO to declare it a part of its world
heritage in 1982. Over eight and a half miles (14 kilometers)
of excellent beaches lie to the east of the Cuban capital,
which is symbolized by the Giraldilla. To the south, a green
belt contributes to a healthful atmosphere. The city itself
is a cultural center with a solid infrastructure of hotels
and is prepared to host all kinds of conferences and congresses.
Alejo Carpentier, one of Cuba's most famous authors, called
it "the city of columns" and focused attention on
its streets, which he considered a perennially rich show of
life, humanity and contrasts that was bound to entertain any
observer. The settlement of San Cristóbal de La Habana,
which was founded in the southwestern part of the island in
1514, was moved to the northern coast of the port of Carenas
in 1519. Every November 16th, the anniversary of its founding
is observed with a picturesque traditional ceremony at the
Templete, around an ancient silk-cotton tree in whose shade-according
to tradition, was the first meeting of the town council and
where the first Mass was held.
After lunch, transfer to Pinar del Rio and accommodation at
Villa Aguas Claras. Dinner.
Day 3. PINAR DEL RIO (Breakfast,
lunch and dinner)
After breakfast, transfer to La Guabina Farm. Saddle up with
our horses and ride to the Moncada community, site of one
of the largest caves in Latin America. After lunch, a visit
to the Santo Tomas cave, the largest in Cuba, with 45 kilometers
of unexplored galleries. It was named after the Santo Tomás
Creek, which, along with its tributaries, originated these
huge underground galleries, which are full of scientific treasures,
natural beauties and fossils that remind us of the evolution
of life in the Cuban archipelago. Among the largest underground
systems in the province of Pinar del Río are two colossuses:
the groups Palmarito-Novillo - which is 42 kilometers long
- and the Majagua-Canteras (35 kilometers).
Dinner.
Day 4. PINAR DEL RIO (Breakfast,

across fabulous Cuban countryside. Box lunch before we set

This beautiful valley, primarily used for raising cattle,

Ancón Door. It is close to mineral and medicinal springs
that became popular in the 19th century. Box lunch before
returning to the Villa Aguas Claras and dinner.
Day 6. PINAR DEL RIO - LAS TERRAZAS
– HAVANA (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)
After breakfast, transfer to Las Terrazas complex. Las Terrazas
Tourist Complex covers 5000 hectares of predominnantly untouched
land at the eastern tip of the Guaniguanico Range in Pinar
del Río Province, in the heart of the Sierra del Rosario
Mountains. UNESCO has declared to be the first Reserve of
the Biosphere in Cuba. With mountain chains and narrow valleys
cooled by rivers and streams with beautiful waterfalls all
combine with dense forests similar to tropical jungles. One
of Las Terraza's many attractions is the wide variety of the
endemic flora. These plants range from towering trees to tiny
flowers, including royal palm trees, mastic trees, curujeyes,
tiny Bleteas, purpúreas and butterfly lilies, Cuba's
national flower The diversity of ecosystems allows for a wide
range of fauna, as well; including finches, nightingales and
the Cuba Trojans, Cuba's national bird. Many migratory birds
also visit this enchanted area. Time to enjoy swimming in
the pools before transfer to Havana and dinner at your hotel.
